2008 Singapore Independence Coins
By CoinNews.net

The Singapore Mint launched commemorative coins today celebrating Singapore’s 43 years of independence. $2 silver and cupro-nickel proof versions were released as well as a "2-in-1" set containing each.

According to the Mint’s announcement, the reverse or tails design of the coins bear the National Day Parade (NDP) logo — a symbol for the NDP 2008 Theme, "Celebrating the Singapore Spirit."

It depicts: "five young Singaporeans, reaching for the stars. This represents the next generation of Singaporeans, full of energy, striving for excellence and confident of a brighter future ahead."

The Singapore Flyer and various NDP parade activities are also represented on the coins.

The obverse or heads side of the coin includes an image of the Singapore Arms and the date of 2008.
