BNR launches
gold coin on King Carol I’s 170th anniversary

National Bank (BNR) puts in circulation a gold
coin, for a numismatic purpose, starting April
15, 2009. The coin's face value is 500 lei and
is devoted to the 170th anniversary of King
Carol I (who ruled over 1866- 1914), BNR release
informs.
BNR issued 250 such coins. A coin weighs 31.103
grams, is round and smooth-edged, measures 35 mm
in diameter.
The obverse shows Romania's coat-of-arms, the
year of issue 2009 and its face value - 500 lei,
the Peles Castle in a laurel garland and the
inscription ‘ROMANIA' engraved circularly. The
reverse side presents at the center the portrait
of King Carol I and the great coat -of-arms of
the Kingdom of Romania; to the left and to the
right, the years 1839 and 2009; on the outer
ring, the circular inscriptions "NIHIL SINE DEO"
above and "CAROL I REGE" down.
The coins are wrapped in transparent capsules of
methacrylate and will be accompanied by booklets
presenting the theme of the issue in Romanian,
English and French. The new gold coin issue, for
a numismatic purpose, sells through the BNR
branches in Bucharest and in the counties of
Cluj, Iasi and Timis. |
