Dollar Decline Continues With Tyler
By Numismatic News
downtrend in the mintages of Presidential
dollars continues with the release of the totals
for the 10th coin in the series, the John Tyler
Interestingly, the mintages for both Denver and
Philadelphia matched at 43,540,000, an event
that rarely happens, though the Mint tries to
evenly divide production work over time.
This is the second Presidential dollar issue
with a combined mintage of under 100 million.
While the William Henry Harrison dollar combined
total was 98,420,000, for the Tyler dollar the
total is 87,080,000 between the two mints. This
total is just barely more than one-quarter of
the total of the George Washington issue, the
first coin in the series.
Other than a slight uptick for the Andrew
Jackson coins, the production of Presidential
dollars has been in steady decline.
