My business travel schedule has been very heavy since November.
The pace will ease in the coming weeks, but that doesn’t mean I will become invisible.
Right now I am working on arrangements for a trip out to California.
I have had an invitation from the Northern California Numismatic Association to participate in its fourth annual California Numismatic Seminar Sept. 16.
It will be held at the Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum.
Theme of this year’s event is “Collecting in Today’s World.”
I have been asked to be one of four presentations on this topic.
I look forward to digging into it and answering questions collectors might have.
There will also be a panel discussion to end the all-day seminar.
It will be moderated by Herbert Miles.
I had the honor of participating in the second annual seminar in 2015.
In that event, I was joined by Clifford Mishler.
We had a great time sharing our presentation with participants and answering numerous questions.
Mishler, who hired me in 1978, has been a keen observer of our hobby since the 1950s.
I feel like a latecomer in comparison.
But seminar organizer Michael S. “Stan” Turini wants me out there even without Mishler’s participation.
Thanks, Stan, for the ego boost.
I know I will enjoy it.
If you live in the area, put this event on your schedule. The museum provides a wonderful facility for it.
A box lunch is served on premises. Mingling with the longtime collectors there is as educational in itself as any formal presentation.
As similar as collectors are, our hobby paths are also infinitely different.
The willingness to share with each other what we have learned is what makes seminar participants and attendees special.
Put Sept. 16 on your calendar. I would like to see you there.
As more details become available about the other presenters, I will be sure to let you know.
